Me, Tool: What I Do, Who I Am, and How I Find Value in Myself All in One
Wanted to share a compilation of me that I just finished whipping up as it relates to what I do, who I am, and how I find value in myself all in one. Enjoy!
Me, Tool
By Ryan
The best tool in my box is me. I like to be used. It's really not as bad as people make it all to be. Besides, if I can't be used, then I must be useless. I would much rather be used; that means I am valued.
Of all the tools in the box, everybody uses me the most because I get just about every job done, fast and accurate, when no other tool can. I have been reserved many times resulting in financial rewards, borrowed and justly compensated.
I'm the one with the cracked handle from a hard blow. My overusefulness is worn. They sure don't make me like they used to.
When the number of my useful days has come to its end, when I am finished being used, I will be hidden away, thrown into a tool hoarder's pile, or ultimately sent to disintegrate in a landfill.
Sometimes, I don't get put back where I belong, even by the one who acquired me. I always end up being found right where I was left, though.
When other people use me, sometimes they don't put me back where I belong, either. If tools could talk. Sometimes I fall inaudibly off of a table and left to be hunted.
I've been left behind, lost, come back for, delivered, forgotten, stolen. Abandonment sucks. Another tool brought in to take my place sucks. No more polishing for me. At least I get rust, sometimes.
I have a history. Whether time invested was short or long, I've been used to build a lot of magnificence, and I have destroyed many works by others. I've been squeezed and thrown in frustrating anger. I had a target made just for me.
I'm a tool. Easily taken advantage of; it's been said because I am the best in the box. I do have a sense of paranoia sometimes, so forgive me if I say I don't always believe that.
As a tool, I have a specific purpose for my use. Sometimes that purpose is the only action I am limited to. When creativity is expanded, however, I find that I have far more opportunities for use than just the one(s) advertised. In other words, I can do more than I was made specifically to do. Should I do something different? That is up to the user, but I am content with being used for what I was made to be used for.
I'm a tool. I hope to live long and healthy despite the drains and leeches of my span. It may go against the grain, but my entire experience makes me more and more perfect, flawed in every way common or special to me.
Well, from the bottom of my box, thanks for your silent attention.
If you made it this far, go further. What is the best tool you use? This can certainly be a tough question to answer. My attempt to choose, I think, is contribution to any attention deficit I may exhibit in the moment.
Uh oh, I think I may have say in fallen poison Ivy leaves.
Me,
Tool
The Hammer, and the Whole Darn Toolbox
I always like to say I enhance the quality of peoples' lives with the work I do, but that really isn't true. I didn't do that, you did. I was just a collection of tools needed to help play a part in making it happen.
To Whom it May Concern: Thank you for letting me be a part of making a better quality of your life. Thank you for using me to draft and create your visions. Them you for letting me be the hammer that adjusted your world. Thank you for letting me turn the last screw in the boards and boxes where your memories are stored and put on display.
For all that, I am grateful beyond any measure.
Me, tool.
